Identifying the Engine

   Late 1972 350 ... I think

I am creating this post mainly to host the photos for easy access in my attempt to figure out what engine I have. I have very little to go on right now as the block does not have a VIN number on the front passenger side, below the head, where it should be. Mine is just smooth. I suspect it was ground away when it was re remanufactured. It does have some numbers and that's a start.

The numbers I have found so far...

Remanufacture 597130

"L19 72" "GM 3970014" & Symbol points to "2 O'clock"

I found That the L is the month, so December 19th 1972 and the GM number is the cast number showing a 350 CID Low Power 200 HP, High Power 300 HP and it could be a 2 or 4 bolt main. I won't know until I take the pan off and look and the bearings and see if they are bolted in by 1 bolt on each side or (2 bolts on each side = 4 bolt main). The information I found also stated this block was an "LA Built Camaro" which would be from the California plant and built for a Camaro. I see no indication of this and other sites state it could be out of anything.

Here is the page from the site I used for my research....  NASTYZ28.COM

Someone else researched and found this information on various sites:

3970014 68-76 350 210-300hp 2-bolt mains Pass.
3970014 68-79 350 200-255hp 2&4Bolt main
3970014 350 69-77 Pass, Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, Monte Carlo 2 or 4 bolt main
3970014 350 69-79 Truck 2 or 4 bolt main
3970014 350 72 Corvette late '72,200 HP,255 HP 4 bolt main
3970014 1970-75 350 2/4
3970014 1968-79 350 only 200&255 2/4

"N70"
I have not found anything yet indicating what this "N 70" stands for. I also tried to make out the cast numbers on the exhaust manifolds to ID those... I cant make out the numbers so I will have to work on that.

Oil Filter is a Purolator L20049 or Fram PH30
